The original story involved a frog %26 a scorpion being trapped by a flooding river--the scorpion asked the frog if it could ride on it's back to safety--the frog was afraid the scorpion would bite him--the scorpion promised not to if the frog rescued it--yet half way across the stream--the scorpion did indeed bite the frog--but before they both drowned the frog asked why he did it--the scorpion replied-''it's in my nature''.
Maybe he was polite enough not to break wind instead.
